Lakshmi’s prognosis is excellent

IMG_3887
Dear Laurent,

Seventeen year old Lakshmi is the youngest of eight siblings.

Unfortunately, she recently tested positive for tuberculosis, a common but dangerous illness in her community. Without treatment, she would have put the rest of her family members at risk as well, so she quickly sought help at the AIC Health Outreach Centre.

There, the AIC doctor oversees the administration of government-issued DOT (Directly Observed Treatment) medication and counsels Lakshmi about her health and treatment. Since it is mandatory in a DOTS course that not a single day of medication must be missed, if Lakshmi does not come in for her medication for one day, an AIC health worker goes to her house, and ensures she receives the dose.

To enable her body to fight off the infection, Lakshmi is also provided daily nutritional supplementation in the form of a mid-day meal and daily vitamins. Any additional medical tests (x-rays, blood tests) recommended by the doctor are also provided by AIC’s Health Outreach Program. With all of the medical services and support that Lakshmi is receiving, the doctors say her prognosis for a full recovery is excellent!

Thank you, Laurent, for your  generous donation. You have made it possible for AIC to give the best possible care to Lakshmi, to supplement the DOTS treatment. In a few months, Lakshmi will be completely cured of tuberculosis and can resume her normal life.

Thank you for giving good health back to Lakshmi!
